Alyssa Gonzales is the author of Julia’s Shelf Discovery, her debut children’s book that joyfully introduces young readers to the wide world of literary genres through playful rhymes and vibrant illustrations. The story follows curious Julia on a magical journey through a library, where each shelf opens the door to a new kind of story: from fantasy to mystery, non-fiction, poetry, and more. A proud Latina and graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Alyssa earned her B.S. in Public Relations before joining Teach For America as a corps member. She spent several years in the classroom as a special education teacher, where her passion for literacy flourished. During her time teaching, she also earned her Master’s in Education, with a focus on supporting diverse learners and fostering a love of reading in every child.
Alyssa and her sister Julia, who stepped into the classroom for the first time in Fall 2025, come from a long legacy of educators. With Julia’s Shelf Discovery, Alyssa continues that legacy, creating a book that honors the joy of reading and the power of stories to shape young minds.
