All About Alyssa ( aka me)!
Alyssa Gonzales is the debut author of Julia’s Shelf Discovery, a rhyming children’s book that introduces young readers to the magic of literary genres through colorful illustrations and playful verse.
A proud Latina and graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Alyssa earned her B.S. in Public Relations before joining Teach For America as a corps member. She went on to teach for several years as a reading interventionist and special education teacher in New Orleans, where she developed a deep passion for literacy and access. During her time in the classroom, she also earned her Master’s in Education, deepening her desire to create books kids will fall in love with.
Alyssa and her sister Julia—a first year teacher—come from a long legacy of educators. With Julia’s Shelf Discovery, Alyssa hopes to continue that legacy by inspiring a love of reading in homes, classrooms, bookstores, and libraries across the country.
